Week of February 19, 2021
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7, NKJV)
The only fear that God encourages in a Christian’s life is the fear of God. The fear of people does not come from God but many Christians fear people more than they fear God. Consequently their fear hinders them from pleasing God because their efforts are spent on trying to appease other people. Timothy knew of Paul’s trials and persecutions throughout his entire ministry. He knew that he too might suffer those same kinds of trials. Paul reminded him that fear of others doesn’t come from God.
Most often our fear is the fear of the unknown. We do not know what lies ahead of us, so we can become apprehensive. Our imagination can magnify problems until they seem unsurmountable. We need a sound mind to see things in proper perspective. Fear will enslave you but Christ has come to set you free. Ask God today to free you from any fear you are experiencing and to open your eyes. He will reveal the realty of your situation and make a way for you to continue your Christian walk.
