In August of 1986 after a church service, a group of friends gathered at a local restaurant and decided to pursue a new mission church in the area…

As their first Sunday service approached, they located and rented a building to hold the worship services: The Chateau Woods Civic Center. As word spread, things fell into place.

We began with a small microphone and amplifier, a new podium and the expectancy of great things to come. Our new church was made up of people that had a heart for the work of God and a love for people. Soon after, a name was taken;
Chateau Baptist Mission.

After preaching in our first revival in October of 1986, on March 7, 1987, Pastor Rick Fowlkes was called to be our Pastor. Shortly thereafter, we decided upon a new church name; Gateway Baptist Church.

The church staff and the new members share today the dream that began back in 1986. After meeting in the Civic Center for approximately 3 years and averaging 55 people each Sunday, the church moved to a new location (a building off I-45).

The first Sunday at the new location was on April 8, 1990. Largely because of a much better location, improved facilities, and a new enthusiasm; the church grew substantially.

All along, our goal was to purchase property and to build a church facility.

In the spring of 1992, we purchased 4 acres of land at our current location and began a fundraising program.
On January 16, 1994, we moved into our new building.

Since our move to this location, our church has more than quadrupled in size.
On April 23, 2000, we moved into Phase 2 of our church facility and added an additional 36,000 sq ft in worship and educational space. In August, 2008, Phase 3 was completed with the addition of a new indoor and outdoor playground, as well as our Food Pantry.
In Phase 4, we will build a gym with two courts at the front of our property.

And just like that…

“The Dream Lives On.”
