Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin. James 4:17 (NKJV)
When you know God’s will and don’t do it, that is a significant matter; in fact, the scripture says it is a sin. We make excuses for not obeying; we rationalize and procrastinate, but in God’s eyes, that is just disobedience. We must not be misled into thinking that good intentions equal obedient actions. A good intention without corresponding obedience is disobedience. God gives us direction. We tell friends, and church members here is the direction that God is leading me. God’s call goes beyond just announcing what God’s will is; God’s call is to obey. Luke 6:46 says But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say? Announcing our intention even publicly is not the same as obeying our Lord.
God told King Saul to wait until the prophet Samuel arrived. Instead of waiting, Saul took matters into his own hands and offered a sacrifice. Saul discovered to his dismay that other supposedly religious acts do not take the place of obeying the command of God. So Samuel said: “Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, As in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams. (1 Samuel 15:22, NKJV). As with Saul, God expects you to obey everything exactly as He tells you. Do you know what to do? Don’t allow anything to keep you from obedience.
