Where Shall We Go?

Week of February 7, 2025

“Then Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you also want to go away?”  But Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.”  John 6:67-68(NKJV)

Jesus’ words are filled with sadness, “Do you also want to go away?” some of Jesus’ followers were turning away.  His challenge to them earlier in John 6 was a hard saying in their own words.  Many of the people that followed Jesus was for the signs He did, not for the message He was proclaiming.

That is still true today.  We want the Lord to meet our needs but when it comes to obedience even when it is difficult, we are still tempted to turn away.  Peter wisely said, “Lord, to whom shall we go?”

Many appear to be with the Lord but their hearts have gone away.  It is possible to be an active church member but your heart is far from God because His challenges are too demanding.  I believe it is a good thing to ask from time to time, are we truly committed to Christ or is our faith more of a pretentious faith.  If so, today, this day, recommit with all of your heart, soul, mind, and strength.

Stand Firm in Faith

Week of January 31, 2025

“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” (1 Corinthians 15:58)

As we take this journey of faith, we are constantly reminded that the Christian life is not without its challenges. There are times of triumph, but there are also times of trials. In all things, we are called to remain steadfast, immovable, and diligent in our work for the Lord.

Paul’s words in our scripture text are not only words of encouragement, but also words of command. Whatever we do for God has eternal value. Whatever circumstances we face, God remains true and our labor of love is never wasted or in vain.

To be steadfast means to be unshaken. The world around us is constantly changing, but our faith must remain firm. When doubts come, when burdens weigh heavy, stand on the truth and rely on His promises.

Be immovable. The enemy will try to discourage you, trials can shake your confidence. Remember that our hope is not in this world, but in Christ who is faithful and doesn’t change.

Always abounding in the Lord means keep serving God with passion and diligence. Even when your efforts seem unnoticed and unappreciated. God sees. He is working and rewards those who remain faithful.

Dear God, keep us anchored in Your truth and guided by Your Spirit. In Jesus Name, Amen.

The Power Of Perseverance

Week of January 24, 2025

“And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” (Galatians 6:9, NKJV)

Ministry often feels like a marathon. There are moments of joy and fruitfulness, but there is also seasons of weariness and challenges. In those times, perseverance becomes a vital part to fulfilling God’s call.

The Apostle Paul understood this better than most. In 2 Corinthians 11, he list the trials he endured, but he didn’t quit. You may be challenged with financial struggles or personal trials. Those times test our faith, but they also remind us of the One who strengthens us to press on. Our scripture text for today says we will reap a harvest if we don’t give up.

When weariness sets in, it’s easy to lose sight of who we are living for.

Hebrews 12:2 encourages us to fix our eyes on Jesus who endured the cross for the joy set before Him. He understood the eternal impact of His sacrifice. When we remember that our work has eternal significance, the temporary hardships we face become smaller in comparison.

Perseverance is not about our strength, but about God’s power working in us. If you will carry on, He will be faithful to sustain you. So commit to enduring knowing that your work is not in vain.
