Week of November 26, 2021
Well tomorrow we celebrate Thanksgiving with turkey, dressing and all the trimmings but most importantly it is a time for us to remember to be thankful. I believe we have so much to be thankful for in our lives. Psalm 92:1 says, “It is good to give thanks to the Lord, and to sing praises to your name, O Most High” (NKV).
The apostle Paul stated in Colossians 4:2, “Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving” (NKJV). Two commands are given in this verse. The first is “continue” and the second is “vigilant”. We are to continue or persevere in prayer but also we are to be careful to be vigilant or watch for occasions to give thanks. The word “watch” means to be alert. Paul knew we have a tendency to grow forgetful of the Lord’s blessings in our lives. So Paul said in our ongoing prayers to be watchful for opportunities to give thanks. Even in the needs and trials of life there is always reasons to be grateful.
I am grateful for a season where we are reminded to give thanks and praises to our God. It is good to have an annual reminder because it is easy to become comfortable and take our blessings for granted. I hope you have a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!
God Bless, Pastor Rick
