“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” Psalm 119:105 (NKJV)
Have you ever found yourself having to slowly navigate across your bedroom floor in the middle of the night in total darkness, the whole time hoping nothing is on the floor that might obstruct your way and cause you to trip and fall? It is during these moments in life that we really realize how important light is to our own safety and well-being. The Psalmist used the analogy of a physical light coming from a lamp to light the path with that of a much greater spiritual light that comes from God. This spiritual light directs the believer through the path we know as our life. So many people in this world are walking around in total darkness and the distressing part is that they do not even know it. They find themselves stumbling over many of life’s problems over and over again. These people could really use a good lamp to direct their way. Of course the only lamp that is sufficient to guide someone’s life comes through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. The gospel of John records Jesus telling his own disciples, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6 NKJV). In order to receive the light you must first come to Jesus for salvation.
When disaster strikes in our lives the first thing we as Christians should reach for is our Bible. The word of God is a light that outshines the darkest of disasters. When we feel overwhelmed by this world, the word of God will bring us comfort and understanding. We are not to keep the light just for ourselves but we are to share it with the whole world. The power of the gospel message should be spread throughout the whole world. I encourage you to be bold and share the Good News message with as many people as possible. Each time you share the Good News you are spreading the light of God and more and more people will no longer walk in darkness.
God Bless, Pastor Rick
