If My People

Week of July 3, 2022

“If my people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will forgive their sin and heal their land.”  (2 Chronicles 7:14, NKJV)

Patriotism has not gone out of style. For a Christian it has very special implications because July 4th is really dependence day for us.  It is a day to reaffirm God’s vision for America, the dream He gave to our founding fathers and the place that our nation has in His strategy for history. July 4th is more than a day for picnics and parades. It is a day of prayer for our nation, our leaders, and God’s blessing on us.

The promise of today’s scripture holds a promise with a great if. If we humble ourselves and turn from the things that contradict His will and pray, then His promise is that He will forgive our sins and heal our land.

Just as evil people cause what distorts our nation, the solutions that heal must come through people who are committed to God.  Elisha once said about Elijah in 2 Kings 2:12, “my father, my father the chariot of Israel and its horsemen!” Elijah and his righteous living had done more to save Israel from destruction than all of the chariots and soldiers. The hope of America is not in her military might or natural resources but in God’s people being a channel through which He can bless our land. I believe that there is no other time in our lives like right now that we must be those vessels of honor so that God hears our prayers.
